Christians believe there is only one ...The Trinity

Christians believe there is only one God, but that God is three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. It's a mystery how that can be possible. Some religious groups, especially the Jehovah's Witnesses, completely reject the idea. The Muslims also oppose it—they say believing that is a great sin.

The diagram at https://www.symbols.com/symbol/shield-of-the-trinity gives some idea of what the Trinity is, even though it doesn't explain it.

A lot of people have tried to explain the Trinity. I haven't found any explanations to be very convincing. However the analogy of a human team is very helpful for my understanding of the concept.

Human teams are necessary to accomplish large projects. However problems with human teams reduce their effectiveness. Communications and knowledge sharing are often inadequate. Different people have different motives and goals. This problem becomes especially noticeable when people are added to existing teams. It's a management saying that "Adding people to a late project makes it even later."

I see the Trinity as one divine team made up of three persons. Since each one is all powerful, the extra staffing isn't needed to accomplish anything more than any one could do by himself. But the Bible does shows people praying to God the Father or Jesus. And there are examples of people praying to the Holy Spirit in both early and modern Christianity. So in effect there really is some of what management scholars call division of labor. The teamwork aspect is also a great example for humans who do have to work in teams in so many different aspects of life.

Since each one knows everything, each member of the Trinity knows everything the others do. And since they are in perfect harmony, there are never any conflicting goals or disagreements.

Computer science has a concept called virtuality. The idea is that something can operate just the same as something else. For example, you can have an Apple computer that has a program that makes it work like a PC and run PC software. They say it becomes a "virtual PC."

The three persons of the Trinity are so alike in almost everything that they are virtually one. They have a unity far beyond what any human team could ever achieve. They are "three in one" in a both a figurative and practical sense.Ralph Westfallhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09440240584333478386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6747867752017683527.post-24881518427486648632013-12-22T06:42:23.008-08:002013-12-22T06:42:23.008-08:00No. Just that it's wrong to think of them doin...No. Just that it's wrong to think of them doing that as physical people sitting in 3 dimensional space as paintings of them depict. That's faulty because God is not a 3D being. People just cannot wrap their heads around. So no matter what the Bible says, they will just go with whichever Theology Proper makes sense to them.

I do like the illustration that you gave, and the explanation that we might not necessarily have to be able to wrap our heads around it. But I am not sure if the trinity is as complex as we are making it out to be. I think it can be understood. The biblical data reveals:

There is one God. He is eternally present in three persons. These persons are equal in nature, distinct in person, and subservient in duty. That is the trinity. I do not think it is that complicated or difficult to wrap your head around. It just needs to be explained properly. Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00183843844910776862noreply@blogger.com
