Jesus probably didn't have home invasions and schizophrenic mass shooters in mind when he said this. Jesus was talking about religious persecution, about martyrdom. This is why I addressed being faced with death in martyrdom cases. This is why I said that defending oneself when face with martyrdom might be wrong. But there's no biblical prohibition against self defense in any other type of scenario in scripture. The passages you're referencing have to do with martyrdom, not home invasions, mass shootings, war, or any other situation where one would have to defend oneself.

I don't know about you, but if someone is trying to take an innocent life, I will use any means to save them. I believe God will hold me accountable for my inaction if I stand back and watch them be cut down.

The Bible says "Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor will himself call out and not be answered." - Proverbs 21:13

In other words, if you see someone in need and do not help them, God will ignore you when you cry out to Him. If you ignore a person who needs something, whether it be food, drink, clothes, medicine, housing, or even rescue from an attacker, you have sinned. You have committed a sin of omission.
Evan Mintonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04849664329253455702noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6747867752017683527.post-11902202567497153222014-03-05T14:54:26.781-08:002014-03-05T14:54:26.781-08:00Jesus gave us the example on his walk carring the ...Jesus gave us the example on his walk carring the burden of the cross towards his destiny. He knew that they were going to kill Him and He did not raised His hand against them. That was meant as to shoe us the path. When the moment comes that we are shown what our burden is...what is intended of us to carry...we too are to carry it as Jesus did...with faith in that we are not tempted to kill but to continue to our death if God so will it. Acts 20:35... In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how He himself said, It Is more blessed to give than to receive......... My friend, according to Jesus - not to some street corner preacher - the blessed would turn the other cheek, not take arms against his fellow mankind. JUST SAY NO TO GUNS.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
